Brief Description

The mid level data model is further broken down into a lower level of design where specific physical attributes are defined. The mid level model contains such things as:

• keys
• attributes
• physical characteristics
• indexes, and so forth

Before the lower level model can be designed, the considerations of denormalization must be made. At this point it is safe to denormalize only if the denormalization fits the general pattern of usage across the corporation. The techniques of denormalization include:

• creation of arrays of data
• deliberate introduction of redundancy
• merging of tables commonly used together
• summarization, and so forth

The data base structures that come from this level of design are able to be directly entered into a dbms catalog.
