COMPARATIVE ARCHITECTURES SEMINAR
For years, there have been two predominant approaches to building a data warehouse: the Kimball approach and the Inmon approach. The Inmon approach entails a complete, ever-evolving architecture that is known as the DW 2.0 architecture. The main feature is the creation of a “single version of the truth,” where there is corporate data that is created from multiple application sources and the issue of data integrity is resolved. The Kimball approach focuses on star joins, dimensions, and fact tables. With the this approach, it is possible to build reports and analyses quickly, and put data directly into the hands of the end user. It has evolved into what is called the “dimensional modeling/bus architecture” approach. Each approach achieves distinctly different results in the long run. The question is how do you blend dimensional modeling and DW 2.0 to get the “best of both worlds?” You can find out by attending the Comparative Architectures Seminar. The seminar will describe the strengths and applicability of each approach, compare them side by side, and conclude with an architectural description of how to blend them to get the best out of each approach. Whether you have an existing data warehouse and are planning to re-architect it, or whether you are starting new with a data warehouse, this seminar is for you. Learn More
